Genesis 1:14-19 Day 4 God Creates Sun Moon Stars
“& God said, Let there be lights in the firmament of the heaven to divide the day from the night; & let them be for signs, & for seasons, & for days, & years: (15) And let them be for lights in the firmament of the heaven to give light upon the earth: and it was so. (16) “& God made two great lights; the greater light to rule the day, & the lesser light to rule the night: he made the stars also. (17) & God set them in the firmament of the heaven to give light upon the earth, (18) & to rule over the day & over the night, & to divide the light from the darkness: & God saw that it was good. (19) & the evening & the morning were the 4th day” (Gen. 1:14-19).
This Study Focuses on the Sun & Moon: They are Created on the 4th day & not even named sun & moon so we won’t worship them (Deut. 4:19). They reveal God’s power (Isa. 40:26). They reveal God’s mercy (Ps. 136:7-9). They reveal God’s covenant faithfulness to Israel (Jer. 33:20-21, 25-26; 31:35-36; Ps. 89:35-37). They humble us (Ps. 8).
And to think all the stars are just the work of God’s fingers! (Ps. 8:3). “Stand in awe of Him” (Ps. 33:6-9).
THE SUN (is a STAR) REVEALS A LOT ABOUT GOD:
Reveals our Creator to be infinitely Powerful (Omnipotent!). A Heaven of almost infinite dimensions requires an Infinite Creator (Isa. 44:6; 48:12) [Law of Cause & Effect]. Jesus is the infinite God! (Rev. 22:13; Eph. 4:9-10; John 17:5). For God to maintain the entire Heavens He must be Omnipresent (Ps. 139:7-10). Jesus is Omnipresent (Eph. 1:23; John 14:23; Col. 1:27). A Universe of innumerable stars of immeasurable power requires a Creator that is Almighty (Gen. 17:1; Rev. 21:22). Jesus is Almighty (Heb. 1:3; Matt. 28:18; Col. 1:16-19).
What a comfort to know Jesus & the LORD God are “1” (John 10:30; 14:9-11; 17:21). They are the 1 true omnipresent God. Psalms 139:7-8 reminds us: “ Whither shall I go from thy spirit? or whither shall I flee from thy presence? If I ascend up into heaven, thou art there…” (read Matt. 18:20; John 16:7-13; Act 18:9-10; 2Tim. 4:17)
The great distances of the heavens don’t separate us from God. The condition of our heart does! (Isa. 59:2; Jer. 5:25).
THE ORIGIN OF THE SUN:
1. ‘Created’ by God or 2. Natural Laws ‘Evolved’ it by time & Chance
The Sun is a “star.” The ideas of ‘soft science’ about its origin encounter major Problems: the theories go against the 2nd Law of thermodynamics, Also known as the Law of Entropy. The LAW of Entropy states: Things go from order to disorder; from high energy to low energy. So Evolutionists put their FAITH in a theory that goes against empirical ‘hard’ science when it comes to the origin of stars. Their worldview gives them no choice! Evolutionists believe nature went against natural law to bring stars into existence! So evolutionists put their ‘faith’ in their materialistic theories not hard Science. There is no hard Science to explain The Origin of Stars:
“Despite numerous efforts, we have yet to directly observe the process of stellar formation…. The origin of stars represents one of the fundamental unsolved problems of contemporary astrophysics.”

“A nebula is a large amount of gas & dust spread out in an immense volume. All stars begin their lives as parts of nebula. Gravity can pull some of the gas & dust in a nebula together. The interacting cloud is then called a protostar. A star is born when the contracting gas & dust become so hot that nuclear fusion starts.” (Prentice Hall, Earth Science, 2001, p. 733). Why is this still in the textbooks???
DO SCIENTISTS KNOW THE AGE OF THE SUN?
“We can also find absolute ages by comparing a star’s color and brightness with those in stellar evolution models.” (Ref: Discover Sept. 2003 pg. 17). Do you realize what they are saying??? They are saying: “We can tell how old it is by how old we think it is!!!” The Bible speaks of such self deception: “Because that, when they knew God, they glorified him not as God… but became vain in their imaginations… (22) Professing themselves to be wise, they became fools” (Rom 1:21-22).
Supernatural DESIGN OF THE SUN for Life on Earth
Our Sun is Just the right size & mass; Just the right temperature. Our sun is remarkably stable; It gives off Just the right amount of energy (3.86 x 1026 watts); It is Just the right distance from earth; It gives off the right kind of electromagnetic waves for Life! (the visible light wavelengths!).
The Bible tells us: “the LORD God is a sun & shield” (Ps. 84:11). A Shield refers to something that protects (Gen. 15:1; Ps. 18:35):
What shield do we need from the Sun? Protection from harmful rays! God forms Earth’s Ozone layer as a shield from harmful rays while letting the life giving rays through! “The shields of the earth belong to God” (Ps. 47:9). As we previously learned, even evolutionists admit the Universe appears to be amazingly fine tuned life to exist on Earth! The Fine Tuning is so precise it is practically mathematically impossible that it could happen by Chance! Scientists call this “the Anthropic Principle.” Science now knows over 200 parameters that all must be in place for life to exist. Observational Science & common sense informs us Fine tuning doesn’t happen by Chance! SOMEONE must do it!
THE ORIGIN OF THE MOON:
Man’s ever Changing ‘vain imaginations’ (Rom. 1:21)
1. Fission theory (1880’s to 1920’s). 2. Capture Theory (till 1980’s)
3. Nebular (accretion) Theory (till 1980’s) 4. Collision/Impact Theory (since 1980’s). The Collision/Impact Theory has too many problems to be considered a legitimate scientific theory. The Moon defies ‘natural explanation’ because it has a ‘Supernatural’ Origin (Gen. 1:14-19 ). Why is it some can’t see or even acknowledge The Miraculous nature of the Sun & Moon? Scientists with an atheistic worldview are blinded to the possibility a Creator God (2 Cor. 4:4). The Apostle Paul & Peter prophesied the End Times would be characterized by: “ever learning, & never able to come to the knowledge of the truth” (2 Tim. 3:1, 7; 2 Pet. 3:3-7). Sounds like the problems caused by ‘Fake News.”

The moon’s dance around the Earth is extremely complex. The time between one full moon & the next is 29.53 days. Average gestation period of human female from conception to birth is around 266 days (9 full lunar cycles). The Unique Design of Sun & moon allows remarkable Solar Eclipses. The Moon is 400 times smaller than the sun. The Sun is 400 times farther away from the Earth than the moon.

Just the right size/mass; just the right distance from earth; just the right orbit speed; creates just the right ocean tides to maintain life on Earth! Our Large moon stabilizes the earth’s 22.5 degree tilt on its axis stabilizing earth’s Climate & seasons for life (Gen. 1:14). The Moon facilitates the Earth’s ‘plate tectonics’ making earth suitable for life.

Profound Spiritual Truth Designed into the Sun, Moon & Earth:
The Sun is a Prophetic Type of Jesus Christ: “But unto you that fear my name shall the Sun of righteousness arise with healing in his wings” (Mal. 4:2; Ps. 84:11; Isa. 60:19-20; Rev. 21:23). The Sun is “he” (masculine) (Isa. 13:10). Psalm 19:4-6 The Sun: “is as a bridegroom coming out of his chamber, & rejoiceth as a strong man to run a race. His going forth is from the end of the heaven, & his circuit unto the ends of it” (Ps. 19:4-6).
The Sun is the Light of the World (John 8:12). Without the sun’s light there is no physical life on Earth. Without the “Son of God” no one can have spiritual life. We need the spiritual light of Christ to see spiritual truth. Sunset portrays the Death of Christ. When the sun sets it looks like it is being buried in the ground. Jesus is placed in the Tomb just as the sunsets. Sunrise portrays the resurrection of Christ. At sunrise it looks like the sun is rising out of the earth, Just like Jesus on resurrection morning. The Sun raises the whole world when it Rises.
The resurrection of Christ woke the whole world up to the Hope of life after death! After rising It ascends the height of heaven. Just like Jesus ascended into Heaven! The Sun always comes Back! Soon Christ will descend to Earth again! Are you ready for His return? (I Thess. 4:13-8). The Moon is a Prophetic Type of the Church: “Who is she that looketh forth as the morning, fair as the moon, clear as the sun, & terrible as an army? (SOS 6:10). The moon is feminine “her” (Isa. 13:10)
Definition of Moon: “The celestial orb which revolves round the earth; her light is borrowed from the sun & is reflected to the earth, and serves to dispel the darkness of night. (based on Webster’s). The Moon lacks its own light; it reflects the light of the Sun. When the Church loses her vision of “the Sun” her light is ‘eclipsed.’ When the World comes between the Church & the “Sun of Righteousness” she goes into eclipse & the world darkens with a ‘bloody’ red Moon. Key Lesson: As the Bride of Christ, Christians, we are to reflect His light in this dark world. (Matt. 5:14; Eph. 5:8-14). If we let the world come between us & Christ, life gets very dark. “Arise, shine; for thy light is come, and the glory of the LORD is risen upon thee” (read Isaiah 60:1-3)
